Beautiful, then ugly: Bensei's 'S I C K' strike, addressed to Jacob

Viewers have already nicknamed the weapon a pocket hammer, and several want a rematch against a bigger block of ice.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 205,689 views a day, 14 times a normal first day on this channel (14,202).

Jacob. This is S I C K🤯 #benseiarmy #meteorhammer #martialarts

A new short from instructor_bensei usually closes its first day somewhere around 14,000 views. "Jacob. This is S I C K🤯" passed 100,000 in its first eight hours.

Bensei describes his channel in one line: "I bonk things with a rock." Most of that bonking is done with the meteor hammer, the Chinese weapon of weights on a rope or chain, which he teaches in classes and swings live on most Wednesday nights. The title is spoken straight to someone named Jacob. It does not say who Jacob is, or whether he had a hand in the weapon on screen.

Viewers' attention is on a single switch in tone. Their most liked comments return to the moment the clip moves from calling something beautiful to calling it ugly, and to the strike that follows. Some have started calling the weapon a pocket hammer. Others want to see it against a bigger block of ice. One joke that keeps coming up says Bensei turned from an elf into a dwarf in under three seconds. The comment section had more than twice a usual short's first-day total before the video's first day was half over.

The same Saturday brought a second fast start. A tabletop role-playing short, "... WHAT DO YOU MEAN TOMORROW?!?!😱😱😱", ran about four times ahead of his usual first day.

So the meteor hammer still does most of the work on this channel, with the dice not far behind.
