England put seven past Croatia in Rijeka, and ITV Sport has every goal
Roy Keane's verdict on Jude Bellingham and the players' own reaction followed the highlights up the channel the same night.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 2,540,435 views a day, 131 times a normal first day on this channel (19,445).
HIGHLIGHTS - Croatia v England | Dominant Display! | UEFA Nations League
Croatia 0, England 7. Thomas Tuchel's side went to Rijeka, on Croatia's Adriatic coast, for a Nations League game and came away with a result the channel's own uploads call historic. The highlights, posted as "HIGHLIGHTS - Croatia v England | Dominant Display! | UEFA Nations League", passed a million and a half views in their first ten hours.
For a channel this size, that is not part of the routine. Days earlier, as we reported here, the highlights from Czechia v England passed a third of a million in seven hours. This one moved about three times as fast. The comment section was livelier still: in ten hours it gathered around fourteen times the comments a usual video here collects in a whole first day.
What are they talking about? The goals, and the ones that got away, since plenty of viewers think England could have reached double figures. Anthony Gordon's name keeps coming up, with many placing him beside Bellingham and Harry Kane at the heart of the team. Others single out the midfield, Elliot Anderson's passing and his partnership with Alex Scott, and one of Bukayo Saka's goals draws jokes about a defender who seemed to freeze like a glitch in an old football game. The most liked talk, though, is about a commentary line on the children in the stands watching Croatia get a lesson, and about how loudly that young crowd booed.
The highlights were not alone. Roy Keane's analysis, built on his line that Bellingham "Could Be The Greatest", and the post-match interviews with Kane, Saka and Tuchel both ran far ahead of a usual first day here, though well behind the goals themselves. Earlier in the week the channel had dug out England's win over Croatia at Euro 2020, billed as revenge for the 2018 World Cup heartbreak. It now sits a few uploads down, under a much bigger one.
