Ships through Hormuz, marchers to Cibeles: POTUS Tracker looks past the White House

An animated map of tanker traffic in the Persian Gulf drew more viewers than the channel's Ohio coverage of President Trump, in a run that also took in Madrid's housing protests and Brazil's last campaign day.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

For a channel named after the president, POTUS Tracker spent a surprising share of its week abroad. Fifteen uploads went up, all of them Reuters-licensed live feeds, and the one drawing the most viewers right now has no politician in it at all: an animated map of vessels moving through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow passage between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. A second version of the same map went up a few hours later.

Madrid filled much of the rest. Several streams followed the housing protests in the Spanish capital, from a march toward Plaza de Cibeles to a counterprotest at the camp in Puerta del Sol, and another carried the demonstrators' demands after parliament rejected two of the government's housing decrees. From Brazil came Flávio Bolsonaro's closing motorcade through the interior of São Paulo state, the day before the country's first-round vote.

The president did appear, arriving in Ohio for a campaign stop near Dayton ahead of the midterms, though that feed was only a couple of hours old.

It was a slower stretch overall. The channel gathered around 146,000 views across the seven days, and its daily pace sits at roughly a third of its usual level, with the subscriber count holding still. Among the political and public-body channels around it, it gained the fewest views this week, while Rep. Joe Neguse and The Democrats were both running well above their normal pace.
