'Dragonwilds is tutorial island': RuneScape 4 theories under IGN's teaser

Jagex's first glimpse of a fourth RuneScape MMO passed half a million views on IGN in eight hours, while the Reignited announcement posted the same day stayed near fifty thousand.

RuneScape - Official 4th MMO Teaser Trailer

Jagex had two pieces of RuneScape news for IGN on Saturday, and one of them carried the day. The first was RuneScape Reignited, a fresh start for the existing game that launches December 2 with remastered quests, a new economy and new hi scores. The second was a teaser for something nobody had a name for yet: a fourth RuneScape MMO.

The description keeps it modest. The project is still early in development, untitled, and built to bring the world of Gielinor to life in Unreal Engine for a new generation of players. Still, it went past half a million views in its first eight hours. The Reignited trailer, the one with a release date, drew about a tenth of that.

The comment section moved even faster, with more than a thousand comments in those eight hours on a channel where a new video of this length usually gathers a couple of dozen in a full day. Much of it is detective work. Jagex released RuneScape: Dragonwilds, a survival crafting game also built in Unreal Engine, in early access in 2025, and many viewers now read it as a rehearsal for this MMO, with one joking that Dragonwilds was just the tutorial island.

The rest is memory: playing on a public library computer in the early 2000s, picking up the game in 2006 and never quite putting it down, and a soundtrack that some say pulled them straight back to childhood.
