Kabutops, Cradily and a fossil Pokémon explainer for Dobbs
Eight Pokémon uploads in seven days, from ghost-type death lore to a one-dollar quiz, and the oldest of them is still the week's most watched.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Every Fossil Pokemon Explained in 1 Minute
Eleven hours after it went up, "What Pokemon Has the Longest Name?" was already gathering views faster than anything else on Dobbs. Ethan Dobbs has built a channel of a million subscribers on bite-sized Pokémon trivia, and this week he posted eight more pieces of it.
The one with the biggest total, though, is the oldest. "Every Fossil Pokemon Explained in 1 Minute" opened the week and has passed 360,000 views, and its comment section has turned into a small natural history society. Viewers point out how unsettling Kabutops looks mid-run, and one of the most liked comments builds a full extinction theory for Cradily and Armaldo out of their Pokédex entries. Others ask Game Freak for a velociraptor and a spinosaurus, Jurassic Park style, and a few gently wonder whether the video really fits in one minute.
Around it came a run of Dobbs staples: a look at where Ash's old travel companions ended up, a grim-sounding "How Did Every Ghost Pokemon Die?", a quiz that pays a dollar per fact, and part 23 of his long-running "1 Fact for Every Pokemon" series. The ghost video and the dollar quiz both had fast first days.
Among the gaming channels nearest his size, Dobbs is the smallest by subscribers and gained the most views of the week, about 3.7 million, with YongYea also running well above its usual pace. The channel itself stayed close to its normal rhythm, just a little busier than usual.
