Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 184,201 views a day, 10 times a normal first day on this channel (18,145).

Calvin's shop is opening its doors again, this time as a television series. Prime Video posted the first teaser for "Barbershop" on Saturday, and twelve hours later it had passed 120,000 views. For a channel whose new clips usually finish their first day far below that, it is an unusually fast start.

The description stays in barber talk: fresh cuts on February 10, walk-ins welcome, with the series arriving in 2027. The tags reach back to where it all began. The 2002 film put Ice Cube behind the chair and Cedric the Entertainer beside him in a shop on Chicago's South Side. The tags also list Jermaine Fowler, Brett Gray and Travis Walker. Viewers clearly recognize Fowler, and several mention his part in Coming 2 America, another sequel to a beloved comedy.

The new show has a natural home on Prime Video. The original films were MGM releases, and Amazon bought MGM in 2022.

The comments came in faster than anything the channel's shorts usually see. Nearly 350 arrived in twelve hours, where a clip here typically gathers fewer than ten in a whole day. The most liked ones ask the same question: where is Ice Cube? Others point out that Barbershop has been on television before. Showtime ran Barbershop: The Series in 2005, with Omar Gooding taking over Calvin's shop. A few viewers want to know why the teaser bleeps its language.

The same weekend, a Hazbin Hotel short of Alastor posted for World Smile Day also ran well ahead of a usual first day. Under the Barbershop teaser, though, the talk stays in the shop, down to one viewer who thinks its storefront looks like the Willy Wonka of barbershops.
