Open-fire cooking and flamenco: Rick Stein's Spain fills The Travel Edit
Two new Spain episodes joined a three-week-old one, while Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris went into the Swedish forest with only a map.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Rick Stein Explores The Rich Traditions Of Spanish Cuisine | The Travel Edit
Rick Stein has more or less taken over the channel that used to be called BBC Earth Explore. Renamed The Travel Edit by BBC Studios, it now bills itself as a home for travel, adventure and food stories, and so far the food part has a distinctly Spanish accent.
Two of the week's three uploads come from the Cornish chef's Spanish travels. The first, on the traditions of Spanish cuisine, went up last Sunday and passed 60,000 views; its description promises regional dishes, tapas and an evening of flamenco. The second, posted on Saturday, turns to open-fire cooking and seasonal ingredients, and in its first hours it is already gathering views faster than its older sibling. Behind both, a three-week-old Stein episode on seafood and mountain dishes keeps drawing a steady crowd. The few comments so far pick at details: one viewer doubts a claim about the largest vineyard in the world, another takes issue with how Stein pronounces Spanish dish names.
The odd one out is a trip to Sweden with Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris, two of the later Top Gear presenters, left to find their way through the forest with nothing but a map. It has had a slower start.
Overall the channel ran a touch below its usual pace, with subscribers holding at 1.1 million. Among the TV and streaming channels of its size, this was a quiet one: Prime Video AU & NZ and Channel 4.0 had the busy weeks.
