Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Santa, and The Man with the Bag teaser takes off for Prime Video
Alan Ritchson rides along in the Christmas action comedy, and the comment section has become a contest of rewritten Schwarzenegger catchphrases.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 320,707 views a day, 15 times a normal first day on this channel (21,646).
The Man with the Bag - Official Teaser | Prime Video
Arnold is Santa now. The first teaser for The Man with the Bag, Amazon's Christmas action comedy, passed 250,000 views in its first fifteen hours. That is close to fifteen times what a new upload on Prime Video usually draws in a whole day.
The channel posted plenty around it. A Summer I Turned Pretty first-kiss clip, a Helluva Boss sing-along and an Invincible scene all went up the same day, and none of them reached twenty thousand views. The holiday movie is the one people kept opening.
The pairing is a big part of the pull. Schwarzenegger plays Santa Claus, and the video's tags put Alan Ritchson beside him. Ritchson is the star of Reacher, one of Prime Video's own hit series. Adam Shankman, the director of Hairspray, is behind the camera.
Viewers came ready to play. Many have rewritten Schwarzenegger's most famous lines from Predator and Terminator for the North Pole, with cookies and sleighs in place of choppers and clothes. Several point to a moment about half a minute in that they hear as a nod to "I'll be back."
Others go straight to Jingle All the Way, the 1996 film in which he spent Christmas Eve chasing a Turbo Man doll. One popular joke says that after all that searching, he simply became Santa so he could make the toy himself. More than one commenter is hoping Danny DeVito, his Twins co-star, turns up as an elf.
