Video surging 10x the video's usual pace

Ten thousand balls fill a toddler's bedroom for Calen Chan

The surprise came after a parkour makeover of the room, and two days later a bedtime short showed what the balls did to lights-out.

Why this story? The video is running at 134,802 views a day, 10 times its usual pace (13,206).

Calen Chan, a three-time US parkour national champion, has spent his channel's recent weeks turning his toddler son into a co-star. His newest long video takes the idea about as far as a bedroom allows: "I SURPRISED MY TODDLER WITH 10,000 BALLS."

The chapters lay out the plan. First comes the hunt for ten thousand ball pit balls, then a parkour makeover of the boy's bedroom, then the filling, the surprise itself, a round of ball challenges and, at the end, the baby of the family climbing in too. In the description, Chan says one of the best parts of being a dad is getting to live out his own childhood dreams through his kids.

The video had a quiet first day, about 11,000 views, then picked up nearly 135,000 in its second. The comments are mostly about the toddler: timestamps of him sprinting across the room and sliding down, a small "I catch you" that several viewers repeat, and longtime viewers saying they have watched since the channel's first million subscribers.

The balls have stayed. On Sunday a short followed, its description admitting that bedtime has been a challenge ever since they arrived. The same day, a September short of the boy's first rainstorm passed a million views. According to its description, the dry last couple of years meant he had never played in puddles before.

It has been a busy stretch. A long-jump short from earlier in the week is past five million views, and the channel added about 110,000 subscribers in seven days.
