Ray, a 6 handicap, and the 'torture drill' that cured his slice

Andy Proudman's live lesson shortened Ray's backswing and widened his trail arm, and the drives came back straighter and longer.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Meandmygolf put up seven videos this week, and the one people are watching most stars a man named Ray. He plays off a 6 handicap and has a driver that misses right whenever his timing slips. In the live lesson, Andy Proudman finds a backswing that had grown too long and arms that had drifted too narrow. The fix is a pause drill built around a wider trail arm, and Ray nicknamed it the "torture drill." He worried that a shorter swing would cost him yards. According to the description, he got the opposite: straighter drives that also went further.

The comments read like a support group for golfers who know that miss well. Several viewers say it is exactly their swing. One jokes that the video appeared an hour after he complained about his own arm collapsing. Others want to know about the Swing Coach app used in the lesson, including whether it runs on anything other than an iPhone.

Earlier in the week came another live lesson, this one with Brady, a +6 college golfer chasing a single driver miss from the downswing. Around the two lessons sat a handful of shorts on chipping, iron compression and fairway metals. Older uploads are still working too. A ten-day-old short from Andy's visit to TPI, where a medicine ball took the place of a club to teach the lower body to lead, keeps finding viewers, and so does Blake's lesson on coming over the top.

The channel ran at almost exactly its usual pace, close to 100,000 views a day. Among the sports channels nearest its size, World Poker Tour had the big week, and Meandmygolf sat near Global Triathlon Network, both steady. For a channel run by the coaches of PGA TOUR winner Aaron Rai, the real story is still the regular golfer on the range.
