Wakefield Trinity's first Grand Final, and Kevin Sinfield's run to Old Trafford

Sky Sports' highlights of the win over Warrington Wolves led a rugby league night that also brought the trophy in on foot and a long line of Wakefield players telling their own story of the season.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 67,143 views a day, 14 times a normal first day on this channel (4,648).

Wakefield make Super League HISTORY! 🏆 | Warrington wolves vs Wakefield Trinity | HighlightsWakefield make Super League HISTORY! 🏆 | Warrington wolves vs Wakefield Trinity | Highlights

Wakefield Trinity are Super League champions. Their win over Warrington Wolves at Old Trafford gave the club its first Grand Final, and Sky Sports' highlights of it passed 33,000 views in eight hours. A new video on this channel usually ends its whole first day with under 5,000.

The moment has a long history behind it. Trinity were founded in 1873 and have Challenge Cup wins on their record, but the Grand Final, the title decider since 1998, had always belonged to someone else. Two years before this they were not in Super League at all: relegated at the end of 2023, they won the Championship in 2024 under owner Matt Ellis and came back up. The most liked comment says nobody saw this coming when the season began, and supporters of other clubs, from Oldham to Hull FC, have joined the Wakefield fans in congratulating them.

The final had a second story that drew nearly as many viewers. Sir Kevin Sinfield, the former Leeds Rhinos captain, delivered the trophy and the match ball to the stadium after seven ultra-marathons in seven days, raising money for Motor Neurone Disease. Later that night his son Jack sat down for Sky as one of the Wakefield players, alongside Jay Pitts, Tyson Smoothy, Lachlan Walmsley and Ellis himself, in a reaction video that also ran far ahead of the channel's usual start. A separate clip of the full-time celebrations followed.

Under the highlights, viewers single out Max Jowett's game at fullback and argue over a high tackle. One more complaint comes up as well: four minutes felt short for a Grand Final, with no room for the conversions or the drop goal.
