Video taking off 25x its usual first day

Doyle Brunson's 'poker wisdom,' and viewers spot a young Patrik Antonius

The World Poker Tour spent a weekend on the late Texas Dolly, and this short's comment section ran about twelve times busier than a usual first day.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 222,658 views a day, 25 times a normal first day on this channel (9,041).

"Doyle Brunson Poker Wisdom" is the World Poker Tour's newest short of the Texas road gambler who won two World Series of Poker Main Events and spent decades as the game's best-known face. In a little over a day it passed 280,000 views. A new short on the tour's official channel usually ends its first day at around 9,000.

The title keeps the wisdom to itself, and the description is only the tour's standard line about its tournaments. The comments fill in the rest. Most of them recognize the young man across the table as Patrik Antonius, the Finnish high-stakes pro. Many dwell on how different he looks with long hair and earrings. One viewer lays out the hand: Antonius all in before the flop with ace-deuce, Brunson calling with a pair of twos. A longer comment remembers the moment Brunson asks how anyone could make that bet, then breaks into the big smile that puts the younger man at ease.

The short is part of a small Brunson run. On October 2 the channel posted "Poker LEGEND Doyle Brunson is ALL IN 😳 #poker #casino #pokerhands", which has done even better, and "That Time Doyle Brunson's LIFE WAS AT RISK Playing Poker 🫪 #poker #casino #pokerplayer". That date carries a joke every poker fan knows, and one viewer marked it: Brunson won both of his Main Event titles holding ten-deuce, the hand that still goes by his name. Was the 10-2 date the reason for the tribute weekend? The titles do not say.

Brunson died in 2023, and a few viewers left a simple goodbye. Most of the comment section, though, is a room of people swapping stories about a man they clearly enjoyed watching play.
