Pike's attorneys are challenging her confinement. A month after she survived an attempted execution, WKRN News 2 reports that her legal team is contesting the near-solitary conditions in which she is being held in the prison infirmary.
Reporter Kelly Milan says Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital. Her attorney, Stephen Farrell, says the state followed its full execution protocol and describes her survival as unprecedented.
The report, titled "Failed Christa Pike execution one month later", drew about 37,000 views in its first day, far beyond the station's usual audience for a regular upload.
At the center of the court dispute is a 2024 settlement concerning Pike's ability to socialize. Milan outlines her attorneys' effort to enforce that agreement, while Farrell expresses concern about her physical and mental condition.
The segment also includes the voice of Colleen Slemmer's mother, who discusses the cost of housing death row inmates and the lack of apologies. Milan describes a letter in which Pike reflects on the victim's family.
Clemency requests have reached Governor Bill Lee. He says an investigation is examining why the sentence was not carried out. WKRN closes with the contrasting positions of gubernatorial candidates Marsha Blackburn and Jerri Green on execution methods and a moratorium.
