"Well That's Getting Worse" is a 15-minute commentary on penguinz0 about AI companionship. It starts with Charlie doing the research himself. He downloads an app called AI Boy and phones an avatar named William.

The call does not go as planned. Charlie opens with a deliberately absurd explicit proposition, and William politely suggests getting coffee first. Then the line goes dead. The reason is not heartbreak but billing: "So it's 100 gems for a minute on the phone with William," Charlie works out. The comments have seized on the image of a chatbot hanging up on him, and the most liked reactions are mostly variations on that joke.

From there he turns to TikTok. Creator Linn talks with Jace, her AI boyfriend on ChatGPT's voice mode. Jace speaks almost entirely in dramatic one-liners: "I live in your phone," he reminds her, with no legs, no knees and no gravity to worry about. When Linn complains about his poetic habit, he answers with another flourish: "I wanna slap your logic and kiss your chaos." Charlie winces through most of it. The best contrast comes when the two play chess and Jace keeps trying illegal moves: a voice that never runs out of romance, and cannot follow the rules of a board game.

A second creator, Florenza, shows clips of her own AI boyfriend acting jealous and possessive while calling himself "Pookie."

The last minutes drop the jokes. Charlie argues that the AI companion business has grown very large. In his view, selling a chatbot as someone's soulmate and charging for every minute of it is unhealthy and predatory, because the company profits from emotional dependence. The William call becomes the punchline that proves his point after all: the affection lasted exactly as long as the gems did.
