A fictional contest promises a billion-dollar prize and a chance to save humanity. Nikki Carreon has questions about the storytelling before anyone gets near the money.
In "I Read the Mr. Beast Book (so you don't have to)", Nikki works through The Most Dangerous Games, the collaboration between James Patterson and MrBeast. She draws a connection between Patterson's high-output publishing operation and MrBeast's approach to online entertainment: "James gamifies the production of his books, and Jimmy gamifies algorithms."
Then comes the actual reading: a crowded cast, a freezing-water challenge in Antarctica and a fictionalized MrBeast whose heroic role gives Nikki plenty to critique. Her larger objection is to a novel she finds fast-paced but shallow. Near the end, she puts it plainly: "Writing is still art, not content." The review also includes a paid sponsor segment.
Nikki posted nothing new this week, but this October upload is currently her busiest video by daily views. Older company comes from her Tyler Catastrophe commentary with Brooke Sharks and "I Read The Sexy Ratatouille Book... So You Don't Have To". The latter's description says she loves making book videos, a thread that also runs through her much-watched Colleen Hoover reading challenge.
The channel added a thousand subscribers over the week, although daily viewing is running below its usual level. Nearby commentary channels had different rhythms: KSI+ and Kat Blaque are drawing above-usual daily audiences, while Folding Ideas is close to its normal pace. For Nikki, the week's main reading assignment remains Patterson and MrBeast's very expensive fictional contest.
