Election results 2026: LIVE midterm AP race calls and Senate and House maps
When the Associated Press calls a race, newsrooms across the country rely on it. On election night that work ran live on AP's own channel. "Election results 2026: LIVE midterm AP race calls and Senate and House maps" promised the calls as they came in, updated maps of the balance of power in both chambers, and coverage from inside Republican and Democratic campaign events.
The stream passed 2.8 million views within seven hours. A long broadcast on this channel usually draws well under 100,000 views in its whole first day.
The feed's list of campaign stops read like a guide to the night's tightest Senate contests. In Texas it was James Talarico against Ken Paxton, the state's attorney general since 2015. Talarico, a state representative since 2018, is now the senator-elect. In Michigan it was Abdul El-Sayed against Mike Rogers, and in Georgia, Jon Ossoff against Republican Rep. Mike Collins. Ossoff, the youngest member of the Senate, won a second term.
AP's shorter uploads through the night filled in the rest. Roy Cooper, the former North Carolina governor, flipped a Republican-held Senate seat and told supporters, "North Carolinians, I accept your job offer." Keisha Lance Bottoms became the first Black woman elected governor in U.S. history, and Byron Donalds became Florida's first Black governor.
One Short drew a much larger audience than AP's clips usually do. In it, voters in Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens' district respond to her endorsement of Rogers in Michigan's Senate race.
AP's most watched upload is still a 2016 clip of a store clerk catching a baby as a woman collapses. On this night the crowd came for something much plainer: race calls and maps.
