Georgia's Election Day waits averaged five minutes, officials said
WSB-TV's polling-place update drew about 30,000 views in its first ten hours, an unusually fast start for the station's Shorts.

Georgia Election 2026: No long waits on Election Day
Justin Gray's report from Georgia's election command center offered a practical answer for anyone wondering how long voting would take: not very long, at least by Tuesday afternoon.
State officials put the average wait at five minutes. Gray reported no major disruptions preventing people from voting in metro Atlanta, though officials expected lines to grow as people arrived after work. Millions of Georgians had already voted early or by absentee ballot before Election Day began.
The WSB-TV segment, titled "Georgia Election 2026: No long waits on Election Day," also explained what would happen after voting ended. Under Georgia law, Gray reported, early-voting results were required to be reported within an hour of polls closing.
Short waits did not mean an entirely trouble-free day. Fulton County officials were seeking permission to rescan ballots following scanner issues involving two precincts, while Mitchell County had a delayed polling-place opening.
Asked about Department of Justice monitors in several counties, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger described their presence alongside Democratic, Republican and independent observers as part of normal election procedures. He also named the Carter Center among the observers.
WSB-TV's separate report on the closely polled governor's contest drew an unusually large early audience too. But its polling-place update had the stronger start of the two, putting the mechanics of casting a ballot alongside the station's campaign coverage.
Georgia’s most populous county, covering much of Atlanta. Atlanta is also its county seat.
