Jogger stabbed along Brooklyn waterfront has died, her heartbroken mother says
Yacira Suarez is asking the person who attacked her daughter to turn themselves in. Katie Suarez died in the hospital Monday after being stabbed while jogging along Brooklyn's Shore Parkway Greenway on Friday night, her mother told CBS New York.
Lisa Rozner's report recounts how Katie's father found her wounded near the greenway. Flowers are shown tied to a fence at the site, while NYPD divers search the nearby water for evidence.
The report also raises a specific concern about the route's safety. Brooklyn Council Member Kayla Santosuosso points to poor lighting and ongoing pedestrian bridge construction. "There is no consistent overhead lighting that's down there," she says, promising to push for more lighting.
The Short drew about 18,000 views in its first seven hours, already well beyond the channel's usual full-day audience for that format.
Rozner reports that the NYPD is offering a $10,000 reward for information about the attack. The family is also planning a vigil for Katie.
