NYPD officers shoot man who opened fire at them in the Bronx, police sources say
Police tape encloses a stretch of Bainbridge Avenue as CBS New York's Dan Rice reports from Chopper 2 above the Fordham section of the Bronx. On the sidewalk, the camera picks out what Rice identifies as the weapon used in the encounter.
According to the station's police sources, officers responded around 3:30 p.m. to a report of a man menacing people with a weapon inside a store. Rice says the man was outside when officers arrived and fired at them. Officers returned fire, striking him.
The man was taken to a local hospital, with his condition unknown at the time of the report. No police officers were injured, the station says.
The brief breaking-news upload drew about 16,000 views in its first six hours, already well above the roughly 3,000 that CBS New York's Shorts usually receive across a full first day.
In a subsequent report, correspondent Rob Flaks locates the disturbance at a deli near East 194th Street. That follow-up says police told the man to drop his weapon before the shooting.
