Deputies responding to reports of gunfire on Jetty Road found two people dead at Moss Landing State Beach, Monterey County Sheriff's Commander Andy Rosas says in a briefing carried by KTVU FOX 2 San Francisco.

Another gunshot victim arrived separately at a hospital, and a fourth person was transported with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers had responded shortly before 2 a.m. Monday.

The briefing makes clear how much investigators had yet to establish. Rosas says the motive, the victims' identities and their relationships were not confirmed. He also cautions that officials had not determined whether the deaths were homicides, suicides or another type of death.

"It's very important that we not speculate as to what happened here," Rosas says.

KTVU's upload drew about 34,000 views in seven hours, already well beyond the channel's usual full first-day audience for regular videos. The report includes questions to California State Parks Chief Ranger Mike Dippel about beach hours and access. Dippel says the beach closes at sunset and those present had been there after hours.

At the briefing, Rosas says Jetty Road and Moss Landing State Beach remain closed while investigators process the active crime scene.
