1 killed, 6 injured in Fairfield Spirit Halloween store shooting | KTVU
A shopper describes hearing popping sounds, freezing, then escaping beneath a gate that people had broken open into the mall. Her account is part of KTVU FOX 2 San Francisco's report on the deadly shooting inside a Spirit Halloween store at Fairfield's Solano Town Center.
One person was killed and six others were wounded, the station reports. Other shoppers sheltered in dressing rooms and the food court as officers arrived. David Bernal, whose wife was inside the store, recounts her description of gunshots followed by screaming and people running.
Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall said he did not believe there was an immediate threat, while emphasizing that officers were actively investigating. Police reported no arrests, and the station said the search for the shooter was continuing.
KTVU's short report drew more than 100,000 views in nine hours, far beyond its usual first-day audience for Shorts. A separate, longer witness report also drew an unusually large audience. The main report closes with the store cordoned off, surrounded by police vehicles, officers and emergency responders.
