  5. 3:40Gary shows heat-cracked condominium windows and says investigators are seeking surveillance footage.

Debra had kept her Camry for decades and had recently registered it again. It was among her three vehicles affected by a fire at San Jose's New Horizon condominium complex.

"So I had her for 27 years. So there's a lot of memories in that car," she tells KTVU's Jesse Gary.

Fire crews were called to Shadow Run Drive early Friday morning. Residents describe waking to flames and popping sounds as the blaze spread through a covered carport. Vehicles were destroyed or damaged, and heat cracked windows in the nearby condominiums. No one was injured or forced from their home, Gary reports, but many residents lost their transportation.

Assistant Chief James Dobson of the San Jose Fire Department explains that the plastics and other flammable components in modern vehicles can make car fires burn hotter and harder to extinguish.

KTVU's report drew roughly 200,000 views in its first day, more than thirty times the station's usual start for a regular video.

Despite the upload's use of "torched" in its title, the report does not establish how the fire began. A resident who is a retired firefighter describes a sound he associates with an accelerant, but that is his assessment, not an investigative finding. Gary reports that investigators are seeking surveillance footage.
