"My arm is broken! Stop!" Ricardo Gonzalez shouts in footage leading KTVU FOX 2 San Francisco's West Coast Wrap. The Long Beach man is back home after a violent confrontation with ICE agents, and says he is a U.S. citizen.
Reporter Christina Gonzalez's coverage includes witnesses describing the detention and Rep. Robert Garcia questioning its basis. "I have not received any information from our own police department that he was somehow causing some sort of criminal activity," Garcia says. The broadcast also includes First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli criticizing members of Congress for encouraging confrontations with federal officers.
The upload, titled "Intense ICE confrontation | West Coast Wrap", reached about 62,000 views in its opening 23 hours, roughly ten times the program-length videos' usual first-day audience on the channel. Its comment section was also several times busier than a typical first day.
This is a full regional newscast rather than a standalone clip of the detention. Immigration enforcement returns later in a report from the Imperial Regional Detention Facility, examining conditions and pastoral care for people held there. Assistant public defender Daniel Rosenberg describes the significance of a visit in simple terms: "That means that somebody loves me."
