"She loved being a mom, and she loved being my daughter," Jorge Garcia tells KTVU. His remembrance of Jasmyne is also an appeal to anyone experiencing domestic violence: he wants her story to help someone else get out.
In Ann Rubin's report, Garcia describes the difficulty of looking back for signs he might have missed. He says he had not seen evidence of abuse before his daughter's killing in Morgan Hill. "She was probably showing me, but she didn't say anything," he says. "So that part, I regret."
The interview has drawn about 44,000 views in eight hours, already well beyond the channel's usual full-day audience for Shorts. Its comment section has also grown far busier than a typical first day.
Garcia's purpose in speaking publicly is not only to remember his daughter. He wants that remembrance to make a practical difference for another person facing violence. As he puts it: "To know that she made a difference in somebody else's life, you know. Save somebody else."
