Escaped inmate abandons getaway truck in Illinois

Security footage of a pickup being stolen in Hornbeak, Tennessee, is followed by a map tracing the search into Illinois. In WKRN News 2's report, the vehicle has been found, but the escaped prisoner remains the subject of an urgent manhunt.

The update follows the escape from Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville that we reported here. Reporter Katelyn Quisenberry says the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has new information: the getaway truck was abandoned roughly 120 miles away in Marion, Illinois.

The segment, titled "Escaped inmate abandons getaway truck in Illinois", combines the route map with security footage and photographs of the inmate, who was convicted of murder. Quisenberry reports that public safety is the TBI's top concern and relays the warning to call 911 if he is seen.

The Short drew about 59,000 views in its first six hours, far beyond the station's usual start for that format. Two other WKRN News 2 updates about the continuing manhunt also drew unusually strong viewing, with the abandoned-truck report moving fastest.
