Peak Halloween horror🍷🦇 | The Silence of the Lambs | FOXTEL

Clarice Starling has barely introduced herself before Hannibal Lecter asks to inspect her credentials. What follows is an ID check in which the visitor, not the prisoner, finds herself under examination.

Foxtel's clip of their first meeting in The Silence of the Lambs drew roughly 40,000 views in its opening day, more than thirty times the channel's usual start for a Short. Posted for Halloween, it is a scene from the film, with Anthony Hopkins behind the glass and Jodie Foster playing the FBI trainee trying to hold her ground.

Lecter asks her to bring the identification closer, then spots its approaching expiry date. Her status exposed, Starling admits she is still training at the academy. But when he questions why Jack Crawford sent a trainee, she invites him to judge her qualifications himself. Hopkins answers with a smile and an observation: "That is rather slippery of you, Agent Starling."

The exchange makes a small administrative detail into a contest over who gets to ask the questions. Viewers are discussing similarly small choices: Hopkins' blink as he looks at the ID, his otherwise fixed gaze and the timing of his request to come closer. Another recalls getting the film on video when it first came out, a memory prompted by a scene that needs neither a chase nor a raised voice.
