Maverick, Charlie and a volleyball-free Top Gun moment lead Foxtel's six uploads

A 1986 romance scene billed as the blueprint for tension passed 110,000 views in four days, with A Few Good Men's courtroom showdown behind it.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Among the TV networks and streaming services close to Foxtel in size, only Law & Order added more views over the past seven days, and the gap between them was slim: both landed a little under three million.

Foxtel did it with old movies. Its six uploads were short clips pointing viewers to what is on the service, and two Hollywood classics did nearly all the work. "The absolute blueprint for romantic tension | Top Gun | FOXTEL" is a scene from Tony Scott's 1986 film with Tom Cruise as Maverick and Kelly McGillis as the instructor Charlie. It opened slowly, then took off, and is now the channel's busiest video by a wide margin. The comments are a mix of affection for Cruise, admiration for McGillis and one patient aviation fan explaining that the MiG-28 enemy jet never existed.

Right behind it is a clip the title calls "The greatest courtroom scene in movie history," from A Few Good Men, Rob Reiner's 1992 drama, and anyone who has seen it can guess which exchange between Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson is in it. It started faster than the Top Gun clip, though it has not kept that pace.

The rest of the week was smaller: Josh Hart owing Jalen Brunson an explanation on Saturday Night Live, Nathan Cleary's Dally M Medal with his father Ivan looking on, and a picnic from The Great Australian Bake Off. A Mean Girls clip from the week before is still picking up views. The channel as a whole is running well above its usual daily pace, with Tom Cruise on screen in both of its busiest videos.
