Kyle MacLachlan's mayor goes off the grid in a Portlandia clip on CBC

Viewers caught a Prince pun hiding in the scene, and a Lord of the Flies trailer from Jack Thorne arrived the same day.

An energy scandal did it. "THE MAYOR'S GONE ROGUE | Portlandia Clip" became the most watched of CBC's ten uploads this week, passing 19,000 views. In it, Portland's mayor, played by Kyle MacLachlan, is named the city's worst energy hog and flees off the grid. The comment section turned into a spot-the-gag contest. Some caught the printer formerly known as Prints only after several viewings. Others noticed the matching beds Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein share, with initials on the headboards. And plenty of people wrote that a mayor gone into the woods must have wandered back to Twin Peaks, the show that made MacLachlan famous.

The same day brought the trailer for Lord of the Flies, a new take on William Golding's 1954 novel written by Jack Thorne, the Emmy winner behind Adolescence. A pair of short clips about Irish expressions and nervous bar orders filled out the week, along with Siaja's speed dating night in Ice Cove from North of North. From the archive came Ken Carter, the stunt driver known as the Mad Canadian, talking about his plan to jump the St. Lawrence River.

The channel picked up about a thousand subscribers. Among similar broadcasters, Foxtel had the lively week. Channel 4, Channel 5 and Law & Order all ran below their usual pace.
