Will's first day, again: three Inbetweeners compilations hold up E4
The three busiest videos on the channel are all long cuts of the Channel 4 sitcom, posted between two and three months ago.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Relive your school years by watching 17 minutes of The Inbetweeners
E4 posted nothing new over the past seven days, and the channel barely seemed to mind. Its daily views ran a little under their usual level, which for an archive of reality shows and American sitcoms is roughly what a pause looks like.
What kept people watching was a show that finished its run on television more than a decade ago. The three videos with the most momentum are all compilations of The Inbetweeners, the sixth-form comedy that ran on E4 from 2008 to 2010 and later became two films. "Relive your school years by watching 17 minutes of The Inbetweeners" is the busiest of them, nearing 530,000 views. It runs through the common room, the coach trip, the prom and Will's first day. "20 minutes of Neil & Jay being the most iconic Inbetweeners duo" sits close behind, built entirely around the show's two least sensible characters, from Thorpe Park to the moment Jay finally tells the truth. "30 minutes of classic Inbetweeners" is the oldest and the biggest of the three, past 570,000.
The chapter lists read like a fan's memory test: Mr Gilbert, Simon's yellow car, the Caravan Club, Neil against a fish. Maybe that is the pull. Whoever writes the descriptions admits to quoting the show every week.
Among the British broadcasters in its group, BBC Archive had the busiest week, while ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 all ran below their usual pace. E4 picked up about a thousand subscribers along the way.
