The Bloop, a runaway tortoise and the Georgia Aquarium on Wild Times

Episode 212 of Forrest Galante's podcast puts the famous underwater sound in its title, and viewers answered with theories and their own lost-tortoise stories.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 49,860 views a day, 14 times a normal first day on this channel (3,508).

The title asks about a sound, and the sound has a name: the Bloop. Episode 212 of Wild Times Podcast, "Scientists Heard Something in the Deep Ocean They Still Can't Agree On," passed 34,000 views in its first twelve hours. A new upload here usually ends its whole first day around 3,500.

The Bloop was picked up in 1997 by underwater microphones in the Pacific. The description bills it as the loudest sound ever recorded underwater. NOAA later traced it to an icequake, a large piece of ice cracking away from an Antarctic glacier. One of the most liked comments offers the same answer. Others guess at hydrothermal vents, and one simply blames a megalodon.

The Bloop takes up only part of the hour. Wildlife biologist Forrest Galante opens with his visit to the Georgia Aquarium, and viewers who have been there write about the hours they spent in front of its Ocean Voyager window. One suggests Osaka's aquarium as his next stop. A segment on finding a missing tortoise brought in the most personal replies: a pet that turned up in the woods after more than a year, another found nearly twice its size six months later. There is also Pat's NFL story, a hippo tale and a round of Higher or Lower.

The channel's daily views were below their usual pace overall, so this was one episode running ahead. The other recent upload with a crowd is another Forrest adventure, "The Biggest Snake in the Amazon?!"
