A dog swept over a dam wall, and a rescuer on a rope, lead Sassy's week
The clips channel of animal rescues added 210,000 subscribers in seven days, about a fifth more than it had a week before.
Why this story? The channel went from 1,000,000 to 1,210,000 subscribers this week.
A dog went over a dam wall and landed on the rocks below, with no way back up. In the clip Sassy posted on October 4, a man secures himself with a line, works his way down to the animal and brings it back to its owner. Two days later, "Hero Risks His Life To Save Dog From Dam" is closing in on six million views, about seven times what a Sassy upload usually reaches.
That short sits at the front of a big stretch for the channel. Sassy collects rescues filmed by people around the world, and in seven days it gained 210,000 subscribers to reach 1.21 million. Its daily views are running well ahead of their usual pace too. As we reported here, the seven days up to October 4 brought 193,000 new subscribers. The latest seven days brought more.
The uploads since the dam keep to the same formula: a stranger stops for an animal in trouble. A morning jogger in the woods near Konin, Poland, frees a mouflon whose horn is caught in a tree, in "Jogger Frees A Mouflin Stuck By Its Horn." A father trying to free a trapped deer while his son watches ends up in what the title calls a wrestling match. A couple stops by a roadside to free a panicked fox, and that clip drew the most views of the October 5 batch.
The newest went up only hours ago. A man walking a beach in Tamil Nadu finds a turtle hatchling tangled in discarded fishing line, cuts it free from its head and shell, and sets it down at the water's edge to swim away.

Sassy's newest upload frees a sea turtle hatchling. What mostly decides whether a sea turtle hatchling is male or female?
In sea turtles, sex depends on how warm the nest is while the eggs develop: warmer sand produces more females and cooler sand more males.
