The stars of Verity took their press tour somewhere hotter than a talk show couch. In the newest Hot Ones Versus, Anne Hathaway sits in the host's chair while her costars Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett play the game the series is built on: answer honestly, or eat a wing coated in the Last Dab. The usual Hot Ones logic is flipped here, and whoever eats the most wings loses.
The film is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover's thriller novel, and the description promises rounds on each other's projects, embarrassing role prep and classic thrillers. The episode drew about 320,000 views in its first eight hours, on a channel where a regular video usually gathers around 21,000 across a whole first day.
The comments are mostly a ledger of who ate what. Many viewers point out that Johnson never touched a single wing and got ice cream instead, and plenty give Hartnett the credit, saying he slipped her an answer and later took a wing so she could come out ahead. Another of his wings gets just as much attention: one he ate rather than face his early 2000s look, the era when Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down made him a familiar face.
Hathaway gets her own following. Viewers enjoy her as a strict, faintly guilty referee who tells Johnson that holding photos up to the camera will cost her a wing. They also keep mentioning a guessing round in which Johnson summed up Meryl Streep, Hathaway's Devil Wears Prada costar, with little more than her white hair. A good number ask for Hartnett to get a Hot Ones episode of his own.
The episode did not arrive alone. A teaser short asking what Johnson did to prepare for Madame Web and a short announcing the episode both ran several times past the channel's usual first day. The next morning came a clip of Hathaway still raving about a shot by the NBA's OG Anunoby.
