Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 | Something Real | Sneak Peek | Netflix
Twelve hours after it went up, the sneak peek for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 had passed a million views. A new upload on Netflix's main channel usually gathers something closer to 70,000 across its whole first day.
The clip is called "Something Real," and the description sets the mood: a city hooked on braindance, the recorded memories people play back as entertainment, and a search for something that is not fake. It promises a new crew of misfits in Night City, in a standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077 that arrives October 20. The tags name Bartosz Sztybor, who co-wrote the first season, and Kai Ikarashi.
That first season, animated by Studio Trigger in 2022, is the reason the comments read the way they do. Its ending left many viewers in pieces, and the running joke here is about getting ready to grieve: people promise each other tissues and vodka, warn against getting attached, and worry openly about the young cameraman at the center of the clip, whose chances in Night City they rate as poor. Others are listening closely. Several catch the familiar double-jump sound from the game, and one points out that the boy's camera footage gives the show the look of hand-drawn anime from the 80s and 90s.
The comments came in far faster than on a usual first day. They also left the channel's other new trailers behind, Ben Affleck's Animals and Jessica Chastain's Nashville mystery Heartland among them.
