Whitmer Thomas, a skateboard and a Skechers joke on So True

Caleb Hearon's one new episode talks aging on a board, making music and Jack Nicholson's opinions, while Stavros Halkias's return passed a million views.

Stavros Halkias has done it again. His latest visit to So True, billed as "Stavros Halkias Returns Again" and only thirteen days old, has crossed a million views, and it is still the episode people are finding fastest. The description runs from an exclusive camp the two dream up to a scooter crash and a cereal tangent, which sounds about right for a guest who keeps coming back.

The one new episode went somewhere quieter. Caleb Hearon sat down with comedian and musician Whitmer Thomas, whose HBO special The Golden One, built around songs about growing up on the Gulf Coast, put his gentler kind of comedy on the map. Here the two talk about getting older as a skateboarder, making music, a bike-themed party and film festival, and what Jack Nicholson thinks about things. It opened with around 100,000 views on its first day.

The comments are worth a look. Plenty of viewers say they had never heard of Whitmer and stayed for his slow, thoughtful way of talking; others call it a therapy session between friends. The most liked joke is about the sponsor: Skechers, on a podcast where its guest spent the hour on skateboarding. Someone also caught a Jack Nicholson impression in the first half minute.

Overall the channel ran a little below its usual daily pace, gaining about 3,000 subscribers. Trixie Mattel's third visit, now a month old, is still pulling in viewers as well. Among similar podcast channels, Dish Podcast and Pitch Side had the busy weeks, and Fear& was well above its usual pace, while So True sat in the middle of the group.
