An echidna in the Macquarie River, and 200,000 new subscribers for Sassy

The clips channel posted fifteen rescues in seven days, from a Canada goose tangled in fishing line to a mouflon caught by its horn in a Polish forest.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

What does a week of nonstop rescues add up to? For Sassy, a clips channel that gathers animal rescues filmed by people around the world, it comes to about 200,000 new subscribers, enough to take it past 1.2 million.

The most watched upload of the week was its oldest. "Echidna Trapped In Rising River Gets Rescued" shows two men wading into the Macquarie River near Warren, New South Wales, to reach the spiny animal before the water rose any higher, and it is closing in on eight million views. Its comment section is mostly thank-yous to the pair, plus one viewer who posted a small encyclopedia entry on monotremes that drew more replies than anything else.

The pace now belongs to newer clips. The dam rescue we covered here, a man on a line climbing down to a dog stranded on the rocks, is still drawing the biggest daily crowd. Close behind it is a jogger near Konin, Poland, freeing a mouflon whose horn was caught in a tree. The quieter stories are worth a look too: a volunteer cutting fishing line from a goose's leg, then walking the park with her husband to collect discarded line and lures, and an iguana found swimming miles offshore and given a lift back to land.

No channel close to Sassy's size in the pets and animals group gained more views this week, though its daily views are running a little below its usual level. Brighter Paws is having a lively stretch of its own, while Sierra Rose has cooled from a very busy pace.
