Leg lengthening on the sofa: Gogglebox reacts, and Channel 4's week follows

The full Gogglebox episode ran from Bake Off's return to Stacey Dooley's Clickbait Clinic, and its viewers keep quoting one line about Derek and a leg.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Gogglebox did the heavy lifting. Of the fifteen uploads Channel 4 put out over the week, the one people watched most was a full episode of its armchair-critic show, posted on October 2 and now past 50,000 views.

The title promises an extreme cosmetic procedure, and the tags say what it is: leg lengthening, from Stacey Dooley's Clickbait Clinic. The sofas also took in the return of The Great British Bake Off, Emmerdale, Tempting Fortune, The Wargame and a This Morning segment that the description sums up in a single word: eggs. In the comments, viewers keep repeating a line about Derek falling on someone's leg, and others point to a horse. One sharp-eyed viewer has worked out the practical problem the cast raised: arms that stay the same length make putting your socks on harder.

Bake Off filled most of the rest of the week. Short clips of Alison Hammond bailing out of a dance move and of Noel Fielding with Paul Hollywood went up as the series returned, and the dance clip is the busiest of the new shorts. Pete from Gogglebox got one of his own for his familiar leap onto the sofa, and Paul Merson turned up on The Great Celebrity Pottery Throw Down showing off a hidden talent.

The channel as a whole ran well below its usual daily pace and added about a thousand subscribers. Among the TV channels close to its size, it still gained the fourth-most views of the week. The Big Bang Theory's channel was far ahead of everyone, and ITV and Channel 5 also had quieter weeks.
