"This Patel guy will come back to haunt you": Sheldon Whitehouse's case against Kash Patel

The Indian business daily's clip of the Rhode Island senator at Patel's FBI confirmation hearing is its second Washington hearing clip to travel far in a matter of days.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 103,257 views a day, 19 times a normal first day on this channel (5,375).

Most new uploads from The Financial Express close their first day with a few thousand views. Its clip of Senator Sheldon Whitehouse arguing against Kash Patel had close to 60,000 within ten hours.

The description places the clip at the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Patel's nomination to lead the FBI. Whitehouse, a Rhode Island Democrat who was a federal prosecutor before he was a senator, lays out why he thinks Patel is wrong for the job. He points to what he calls "wild MAGA behavior" and "appallingly bad judgment", and the title carries his warning to the president. The vote went the other way: Patel was confirmed in February 2025. That makes the clip a look back at an argument made before he took the job.

It follows a familiar path for this channel. The paper's about page promises geopolitics and the global economy, yet, as we reported here, a few minutes of Adam Schiff questioning Emil Bove went a long way only days ago. The channel posted more hearing footage on Sunday: a second Whitehouse clip, this one defending Jack Smith's January 6 work, Jasmine Crockett on voter fraud, and two exchanges from Australian hearings. None of them had got going by the time the Patel clip was racing ahead.

The comments say less about the hearing than about the man who made the nomination. Much of the talk drifts from Patel to the president himself.
