Who sank the rial? Iran's blame game on The Daily Jagran

Behind a title that shouts about a split at the top, the video tells of hardline lawmakers turning on the Central Bank and the economic ministers.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 136,444 views a day, 16 times a normal first day on this channel (8,681).

The Daily Jagran put a loud title on a more specific story. "SHOCK! Iran Top Leadership SPLITS Over Trump !" promises backstabbing inside the regime. The description itself is about a quarrel over money: who is to blame for a currency at record lows.

On one side, as the video tells it, are hardline lawmakers. They accuse government economic officials and the Central Bank of making the crisis worse, and they have threatened action against ministers. On the other side, the Central Bank points to sanctions, uncertainty and what the markets expect. Behind it all is Washington's latest round of sanctions, now aimed at Iran's automotive and railway sectors, on top of the limits on oil exports. The channel relies on reporting from Iran International, the Persian-language broadcaster based in London, which cites official Iranian figures putting inflation close to 90 percent.

The video passed 100,000 views in its first fourteen hours. A new upload here usually ends its first day short of 9,000. It is the fourth day running that Iran has carried the channel. As we reported here, Friday's "Iran To Finally Give Up Now?" followed the rail sanctions from the outside. This one turns inward, to the arguments in Tehran. On the same Saturday, the channel's first look at Taiwan's new F-16V jets stayed in the low thousands.

In the comments, viewers say less about the ministers than about the Revolutionary Guards, and a few step back to ask what Iran's troubles mean for oil reserves in their own countries. For a channel that calls itself a home for news from India and the world, the world has been Iran all week.
