'Strong reason' about Trump, not the senators: Jack Smith answers Ted Cruz
A second Jack Smith exchange from the same Senate hearing, this one with Katie Britt, followed close behind on a Saturday when Tim Kaine's questions about Canada also ran far ahead of a usual start.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 294,455 views a day, 17 times a normal first day on this channel (17,699).
Jack Smith Destroys Ted Cruz's Attack Over G.O.P. Subpoenas In Fiery Clash
Hook Global describes itself as a home for geopolitics and global affairs, yet its fastest new video of the weekend comes from a Senate committee room in Washington. "Jack Smith Destroys Ted Cruz's Attack Over G.O.P. Subpoenas In Fiery Clash" passed 230,000 views in its first fifteen hours. A new upload here usually gets only a small slice of that in a full day.
The exchange turns on one question. During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Smith's investigation, Cruz, the Republican senator from Texas, asked the former special counsel whether he had evidence that Republican senators would destroy evidence or intimidate witnesses. Those were the grounds for subpoenas that reached Republican lawmakers and organizations. According to the description, Smith drew a line between the senators and Donald Trump. It was Trump, he said, whom there was "strong reason" to believe would obstruct the investigation, and he pointed to the obstruction and witness intimidation alleged in the Trump cases.
The same hearing gave the channel another of its busiest clips, "'That's A Lie'". In it, Sen. Katie Britt presses Smith on the Arctic Frost investigation and on claims of political bias at the FBI. Between the two Smith videos sits a quieter hearing that also traveled far: Tim Kaine at the Armed Services Committee, discussing the Golden Dome missile defense program, NORAD and how tariffs have strained relations with Canada. Canada runs through the rest of the day as well, with a Mark Carney clip on reducing the country's dependence on the United States.
The Cruz clip's comment section passed a thousand comments within those fifteen hours. Much of it is about manner rather than law: commenters keep contrasting the two men's temperaments as they see them, and some go back to the Trump cases themselves.
