Crossover points and a 'fresh of breath air' slip: Vincent Chan's freedom-number video

Three crossover points and three financial milestones, chaptered from start to finish, drew close to 63,000 views in the video's first day.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Among the money and investing channels nearest his size, Vincent Chan sat fourth for views gained over the week, about 236,000, in a group where I Will Teach You To Be Rich and Scott Galloway's Prof G Pod each passed a million. The former Wall Street worker, whose about page says he left to share "the secrets of the rich" with everyone else, put up three videos, and the newest carried the rest.

"Once Your Investments Hit This Number, Saving More Barely Matters" walks through three crossover points and three financial milestones, the moments when a portfolio starts to pull more weight than new savings. It went up on Friday and drew more in its first day than the week's earlier long video, "Buy These 15 Assets That Will Make You Rich," a tour of what Vincent calls an asset flywheel, from assets that protect you to ones that expand your opportunities.

The comments are part seminar, part blooper reel. The most liked one points at a slip of the tongue a little past the six-minute mark, where a breath of fresh air came out the other way round, and others pick it up. Below that, viewers argue over the assumptions: whether a 10% return is too rosy for projections, whether the 4% withdrawal rule still holds, and whether the salary crossover means pay before or after 401(k) contributions. One reader reckons a million dollars throwing off $40,000 a year feels like so much and so little at once.

In between came a short, "Travel Debt Versus Status Debt," in which Vincent argues that if $2,000 is going on a card anyway, a trip beats a luxury bag. And from August, "If I Started With $0, Here's My Exact Plan To $100K" keeps adding viewers daily, now well past 370,000.

The channel ran a touch below its usual daily pace, and its subscriber count held at 989,000, close enough to a million that the next milestone is on Vincent's own list too.

What viewers say

  • 6:20 fresh of breath air...? 🤣🤣 good video, but this made me smile

  • I think the real wealth-building milestone isn't a specific dollar amount. It's the point where your portfolio starts doing more of the heavy lifting than your paycheck.
  • The most underrated crossover is when your employer has to compete for your time instead of relying on your bills to keep you there. That changes your working life even if you never retire.
