'I Regret Saving Too Much Money': Graham Stephan's frugal confession
His one upload of the week drew close to 100,000 views in its first day, on a channel that usually takes in a few thousand a day across its whole catalog.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
I Regret Saving Too Much Money
Graham Stephan built a large following as one of the internet's best-known penny-pinchers, a former Los Angeles real estate agent who made saving money sound like a sport. So a title like "I Regret Saving Too Much Money" has a little twist built in, and on his second channel it landed.
It was the only new video in seven days, and it carried almost everything. A usual day on The Graham Stephan Show brings in around 4,500 views; with this upload out, the channel is running about twenty-five times that. The August video on what changes at $2-3 million and a spring one arguing nobody needs more than $5M are still finding viewers, but at a trickle by comparison.
The comments are where the fun is. The most liked one teases the idea of a rich man's regrets with a mock complaint about overly buttery lobster. Others take the question seriously: many viewers wonder where the line sits, the point where your investments outrun anything you could spend and extra saving stops being worth it.
Among money channels of similar size, the louder weeks belong to others. Your Rich BFF and Patrick Boyle gathered far more views, and Ben Mallah and I Will Teach You To Be Rich are both running well above their usual pace. For a channel this quiet most weeks, though, one confession went a long way.
