Mag 7 for safety, yields at a top? The Investment Committee's Q4 plan lifts CNBC
Posted on the first day of the year's last quarter, the Halftime Report panel's year-end game plan is heading for about eleven times a usual first day, a few days after the same show's rates-and-oil debate carried the channel.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 111,456 views a day, 12 times a normal first day on this channel (9,652).
The Investment Committee's Q4 strategy
Fourth-quarter plans drew a crowd. On October 1, the day the year's final quarter began, CNBC Television posted a Halftime Report segment in which the show's Investment Committee lays out how its members are positioning their portfolios into year-end. Nine hours later it had nearly 59,000 views, on course for about eleven times what a new video here usually finds in its first day.
This is the second time in a few days that the midday show has led the channel. Earlier in the week it was a debate over whether rates and oil would derail stocks, as we reported here. The other October 1 uploads drew far smaller audiences: a Rapid Recap on Nike's struggles with Jim Cramer and Wall Street analysts, the daily market close, an audio-only edition of Mad Money.
The comment section is busy too. In those nine hours it had already drawn more than twice the comments of a usual full first day, and much of it reads like a notebook. One viewer boils the segment down to two calls: Josh Brown on rotating into the Magnificent Seven as a defensive move, and a panelist the viewer calls Baruch on bond yields having topped. Others pick up the thread. Some agree that the big tech names have become a safety play. Others say rates have further to climb, or that Treasury bills are the place to wait.
Brown, the chief executive of Ritholtz Wealth Management and a familiar face on the committee, gets his own praise under the video. At least one commenter, though, misses Scott Wapner, the show's regular host.
