Video taking off 11x its usual first day

A judge halts Mamdani's second-home tax, and Steve Fulop takes Varney's chair

The former Jersey City mayor, speaking for New York's big employers, gave Fox Business its third fast-starting video in two days.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 217,907 views a day, 12 times a normal first day on this channel (19,027).

Judge BLOCKS Mamdani tax rollout in DRAMATIC setbackJudge BLOCKS Mamdani tax rollout in DRAMATIC setback

Steve Fulop spent more than a decade running Jersey City, across the Hudson. On Fox Business he was talking about New York City's money instead, as chief executive of the Partnership for the City of New York, the group that speaks for many of the city's largest employers.

The occasion was a court ruling. A judge has ordered New York City to scrap the rollout of its wealth tax on second homes, a setback for Mayor Zohran Mamdani's administration. Stuart Varney's interview also turns to reports of a smear campaign aimed at the city's chief executives, which Fulop responds to.

Nine hours after it went up, the segment had passed 120,000 views. A Fox Business upload usually gathers about a sixth of that in its whole first day. It follows Larry Kudlow on Iran and Danny Danon on the Tel Aviv-bound flight, as we reported here, so this is the channel's third quick starter in two days. The rest of the October 1 lineup, from Jamieson Greer on tariffs to a new Texas shipbuilding hub, is still counting in the thousands or hundreds.

Fox Business is not the only busy channel of its kind. CNBC Television and Bloomberg Television, both close to it in size, are also running well above their normal daily pace.

Under the video, the comments have less to say about the legal detail than about who might leave town. Texas comes up more than once, so does Governor Kathy Hochul, and one of the most-liked comments goes back to Amazon's abandoned plan to put its second headquarters in New York.
