Micron's AI memory forecast draws fifteen times a usual Bloomberg Podcasts start
A short segment with Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Jake Silverman passed the same Micron news on Stock Movers and Daybreak Asia within hours.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 37,349 views a day, 15 times a normal first day on this channel (2,512).
Micron Forecast Tops Estimates on Booming AI Memory Demand
How much memory does the AI building boom actually need? Enough, it turns out, for Micron Technology to give a sales forecast for its current quarter that came in nearly $5 billion above what analysts had expected. Bloomberg Podcasts put up a short reaction piece on Wednesday, and seven hours later it had passed 17,000 views. A new upload here usually gathers only a small fraction of that over its whole first day.
Micron is the largest American maker of memory chips. Its fiscal first quarter runs through November, and the company now expects revenue of about $61.5 billion, with profit per share also ahead of projections. To make sense of it, the segment turns to Jake Silverman, the semiconductor analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, and the tags name David Gura and Christina Ruffini as well.
The channel covered the same news more than once. Stock Movers led its Wednesday episode with Micron's jump, and Daybreak Asia folded the forecast into a Thursday edition about Japan's business confidence. Both drew a few hundred views or fewer. The standalone segment, with Micron's name at the front of its title, is the one that traveled.
The comment section is small but curious. One viewer wants to know whether Micron is the only American company making HBM, the high-bandwidth memory that sits beside AI processors. Another points out that the stock had still slipped over the week and the month. A third went off to check how much memory an iPhone actually carries after something said in the interview.
A few days ago, as we reported here, it was Kennedy Center performers who found an unexpected crowd on this channel. This time it is a chipmaker's earnings.
