Anthropic's IPO, a $2 trillion question and Patrick Boyle's math

His one new video runs from Scott McNealy's dotcom warning to Juicero-style market sizing, and it passed two million views in a week.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

"Anthropic Just Filed to Go Public. Does the Math Add Up?" is the only video Patrick Boyle posted this week, and it asks what a buyer would have to believe to pay a reported $2 trillion for an AI lab. The finance professor, who also lists hedge fund manager and former investment banker on his channel, works through rising interest rates, SoftBank's junk bonds, the circular money moving between Nvidia, OpenAI and SoftBank, and price pressure from Chinese open-weight models like DeepSeek.

The history is where he seems to enjoy himself most. The description promises a visit to Scott McNealy's famous warning about Sun Microsystems at the height of the dotcom bubble, and a tour of "total addressable market" estimates, the yardstick once used to sell Amazon, Uber and WeWork. The comments picked up that thread and ran with it: viewers recite his deadpan lines back to him, invent absurd market sizes of their own, and many simply wonder why the word trillion now comes up so casually.

The video passed a million views in its first day and has kept going past two million. Behind it, a three-week-old piece on why Germany stopped working and a two-week-old look at "The Doomsday Cult Inside OpenAI" are still finding viewers, so the AI money story has now filled most of his month.

The channel as a whole ran quieter than usual, at roughly a quarter of its normal daily pace. Even so, only one channel in his money and investing group gathered more views over the week. I Will Teach You To Be Rich and Ben Mallah are both running far above their usual level, while Your Rich BFF, the one ahead of him for the week, has slowed down too.
