A manual NISMO Z at Sonoma keeps TheSmokingTire in gear on a week off
Nissan finally fitted a six-speed to its sharpest Z, and Matt Farah's review from May is still the channel's busiest video.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The 2027 NISMO Z Manual Is FINALLY The Car We Asked For (And Best In Class) - TheSmokingTire
Two years ago Matt Farah drove the NISMO Z at Sonoma Raceway and liked nearly everything about it except the automatic gearbox. Nissan apparently heard him. The 2027 car comes with a proper six-speed manual, plus updates to the suspension, brakes and steering, and the review that went back to the same track to try it is, at more than four months old, the video still drawing the most viewers on the channel. The title calls it best in class; the tags hint at the class in question, with the BMW M2 and the Mustang Dark Horse named alongside it.
No new reviews went up this week, which is unusual for a channel whose about page promises them on Mondays and Wednesdays. Behind the Z, two very different track cars keep pace. One is a 2002 Porsche 996 Cup Car that Marco of TLG Auto in Los Angeles won with a last-minute auction bid, a car with real racing history: the description says Timo Bernhard raced it, and it is now old enough for classic racing. Matt took it around Willow Springs and, by the video's own account, fell for it. The other is the BMW M2 CS, which Matt and Zack Klapman tested on road and track to ask whether the extra $30,000 over a regular M2 is worth it.
The channel's daily views sat a little below their usual level, and subscribers held at 1.1 million. Among car channels of similar size it was a quiet week, while Sofya Temnikova's wordless garage and Mark McCann's showroom visits had busy ones.
