Oil-sprayed undercarriages and a fuel tank sensor pattern: Eric O.'s hunch finds a crowd

A 2021 Ford EcoSport is the starting point, but the video is really about something Eric says he has noticed for years on cars treated with Fluid Film, Krown and similar coatings.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

What happens at a small-town shop in Avoca, New York, when the owner stops posting for a week? On South Main Auto, the repairs already on the shelf keep the lights on, and one of them is less a repair than a question.

"I Keep Seeing This Problem on Oil-Sprayed Cars" went up thirteen days ago and is now the channel's busiest video, at close to 260,000 views. The car on the lift is a 2021 Ford EcoSport with the little 1.0-liter turbo, but Eric O. is upfront that the EcoSport is not the point. His description lays out a pattern he has been watching on fairly new vehicles that were undercoated with oil sprays: fuel tank pressure sensors throwing performance faults, readings that simply do not behave. His suspicion is that the coating somehow gets in the way of the sensor's sense of atmospheric pressure. He is careful to call it an observation, not proof, and he jokes that he is no "fuel tank pressure sensorologist." In rust-belt country like upstate New York, where undercoating is close to a ritual, it is a question plenty of technicians might recognize, and the video openly asks them for their own stories.

Behind it, two other shop tales are still turning over. A 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes back with the customer insisting it is the same problem as last time; Eric's documentation from the first visit, a repaired O2 sensor heater wire, becomes the tool for finding out. And a two-month-old video about a RAV4 sent over by a Chrysler dealer for a second opinion, after a $2,400 harness quote, still draws a steady stream.

The channel ran a little below its usual daily pace, which is no surprise for a week with nothing new. Even so, among the car channels nearest its size, only Real Mechanic Stuff gained more views over the seven days, while HumbleMechanic and Petrolicious were the ones running ahead of their usual stride.
