A Tividale 'kill room' and a Malaga cocaine seizure at Scarcity Studios
The Birmingham channel posted four court and crime reports, two of them on October 7, and those two drew most of its new viewers.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Dexter copycat killed Maria Saceanu in Tividale "Kill room"
Two reports went up on October 7, and within half a day each had passed 20,000 views. One covers the killing of 24-year-old Maria Saceanu in a rented room in Tividale. The description says the man responsible was a forensic science student obsessed with the American TV drama Dexter, and that he has pleaded guilty. The other follows a Spanish police operation against a British-run cocaine network on the Costa del Sol, which seized about a tonne of the drug. The investigation began with a van stopped near Badajoz carrying sports bags of cocaine.
The week's other two uploads stay close to the channel's home ground. One covers the guilty verdicts after a shooting on the Falcon Lodge estate in Sutton Coldfield, where an innocent man was left paralysed. The other covers a Stalybridge man jailed for making 3D-printed firearms. Birmingham-based Scarcity Studios describes its work as street-level reporting meant to give younger viewers lessons from real cases, and all four reports fit that aim.
The channel as a whole ran well below its usual daily pace, at less than half its normal level, and subscribers held at about 448,000. Among the true crime and courts channels near its size, The Decoder had the busiest week by a wide margin. Merc True Crime was quieter than Scarcity Studios.
