LIVE: Betrayal in the Bloodline Murder Trial - Day 5 | NC v. David Prevatte
Court TV is now carrying two North Carolina murder trials side by side, and the one that has been running longer is drawing the crowd. The fifth day of North Carolina v. David Prevatte passed 150,000 views within seven hours. A long live stream on this channel usually gathers only a fraction of that in a full day.
Prevatte faces charges of first-degree murder and multiple sex offenses in the 2017 death of a five-year-old girl. The channel's description says he was identified as a suspect in 2018 and arrested in 2022, so the trial comes nearly nine years after her death.
Much of the talk under the stream is about how the case was handled. Viewers remark on how long the defense takes to put its questions. Several pick up on testimony about a computer that was sent out for data extraction, and they ask why a small local police department took on a case of this weight without calling in the state.
On the same day, the channel opened its coverage of the trial of Miguel Salguero-Olivares. He is charged with first-degree murder, rape and burglary in the 2012 killing of Faith Hedgepeth, a 19-year-old UNC-Chapel Hill student. Investigators say DNA evidence linked him to the case, and he was arrested in 2021. That first day also drew far more viewers than a usual stream here, though it stayed well behind Prevatte's.
Across the whole channel, daily views are running below their usual level, which makes the two trial streams stand out even more. Day six of the Prevatte trial and day two of the Hedgepeth trial are already listed.

The numbers
The trial stream ran far ahead of the channel's usual first day for long broadcasts, even as the channel overall had a quieter stretch.
