A Honda N-One kei car takes on BYD's Atto 1 for Mighty Car Mods
Marty and Moog put Australia's cheapest new car up against a Japanese import, and the comments are as busy with Moog's walk and the on-screen graphics as with the result.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 223,083 views a day, 13 times a normal first day on this channel (17,169).
Can a KEI CAR Beat CHEAPEST Chinese EV?
A new upload on Mighty Car Mods usually finishes its first day somewhere around 17,000 views. "Can a KEI CAR Beat CHEAPEST Chinese EV?" passed 130,000 in its first ten hours.
The question in the title is a practical one for Australian buyers on a tight budget. On one side is the BYD Atto 1, which the description calls the cheapest new car in the country, an electric hatch from the Chinese giant (sold at home as the Seagull). On the other is a Honda N-One, a petrol kei car imported from Japan, the kind of tiny, tax-friendly city car Japan builds to strict size and engine limits. The description promises a series of "gruelling tests" to settle which one is the better use of the money.
It is an unusual brief for a channel Marty and Moog started on Marty's mum's driveway in 2007, and better known for turbos and engine swaps. Their other uploads from the same days stay close to that: a run of Shorts on the Barra-swapped Monaro, and one about a set of wheels bought from the Nürburgring YouTuber Misha Charoudin.
The viewers noticed the change of subject. Several jokingly call Mighty Car Mods the world's biggest EV review channel. Others say the Honda's engine note sounds like a printer asking for a new cartridge, or that its face looks like Roberto, the criminal robot from Futurama. A popular thread says Moog walks almost exactly like the Techno Viking. A few viewers repeat a line from the video comparing one car's performance to a fridge falling down the stairs. Some complain about a cliffhanger. Many comments praise the graphics and set them beside the old Top Gear. Some N-One owners mention that Honda now makes an electric version of the car, and wonder why that one was not in the test.
The video is also running well ahead of the rest of the channel, which is having a quieter stretch than usual overall.

Off topic, I was on a flight earlier this week and wearing MCM merchandise - a fellow fan was seated behind me. He spotted the shirt and started a convo. We ended up enjoying a two hour chat about our projects (and life), we walked off the flight as fast friends.
Thanks again for building such a great community guys!@ginnaiSee it on YouTube

The Honda's face reminds me of Roberto the criminal robot from Futurama.
@alniinSee it on YouTube3 minutes in and I'm already dropping the thumbs up for the graphics, that's some OG top gear or even grand tour levels of graphics, better than them actually IMO.
